2025 Substance Design Forum at Iowa State University

The 2025 Substance Forum will take place at the Iowa State University College of Design on Monday, April 21. The lecture, presented by Daniel Renner, AIA, of El Dorado, will take place at Kocimski Auditorium at 4pm.

The Substance Design Forum is a juried studio competition and lecture series celebrating design excellence in architecture. Established in 2018, the forum highlights the work of final-year undergrad and grad architecture students.

This year’s speaker: Daniel Renner, AIA, architect and Director of Design Excellence at El Dorado. In an increasingly digital age, Renner will explore El Dorado’s belief that hands-on making is essential to design. He’ll unpack how fabrication and material engagement aren't just construction tools—but core to innovation, process, and meaning in architecture.
