The University of Iowa's men's and women's golf teams lacked a dedicated, year-round training facility that could offer both the technological advancements and dedicated team spaces befitting a program of its stature. The challenge was to create a state-of-the-art golf complex that not only would serve the teams' varying practice needs but also pay homage to the history of golf at the University of Iowa.
Located at the west end of the existing outdoor driving range at the University’s Finkbine Golf Course, the design had to incorporate multiple functions—while feeling true to the sport.
The James M. Hoak Family Golf Complex elegantly fulfills these multifaceted needs, serving as a best-in-class collegiate golf training hub. The affordable, wood-framed structure showcases a 5,000-square-foot performance studio featuring a 3,150-square foot indoor putting and chipping green which replicates outdoor conditions and indoor-to-outdoor heated hitting bays that make year-round practice possible. Video tracking technologies are integrated for swing analysis, further elevating the training regimen. Functions such as locker rooms, staff offices, a team lounge, a club repair/storage area, and additional outdoor practice areas add comprehensive support to athletes and position it as a benchmark in collegiate golf.
