Jasper Winery found itself in a fortunate predicament: booming business meant they needed larger facilities. Rather than expand in Newton, IA where they had been operating since 2004, the owners sought to capitalize on a strategic locale just south of downtown Des Moines, IA. The challenge was to create a multifaceted, 8,100 square foot space that could accommodate not just the production needs for 10,000 cases of wine annually, but also a tasting café, banquet facility, and associated service functions—while retaining the winery's straightforward, unpretentious character.
Expertly designed with form and function in mind, the winery is made up of three primary components: production, tasting/service, and events. This uncomplicated configuration—all unified under a single sloping roof—mirrors the owner's desire for an honest, straightforward presentation. Sustainable features such as daylighting, open ventilation, a low-impact material palette, and high-efficiency mechanical systems add a layer of sophistication to the space. With gardens, a small vineyard, and outdoor event spaces dotting the surrounding four-acre landscape, Jasper Winery is not just a production facility but a destination, capable of welcoming thousands of visitors each year and designed to adapt to future expansion needs.
